Father Passed Away - Can't Figure out how he was handling an Email Alias

However, my biggest issue that I could never solve was how he was using an email alias. He was into tech, so he knew what he was doing, but I can't figure it out how to access it. The email in question is ["firstname@lastname.name](mailto:"firstname@lastname.name)". On register.com. He has two domains registered (firstnamelastname.com, and firstnamelastname.online), but there is no custom DNS records, nor custom forwarding for those domains. The offline password manager has no websites that would point to how he was doing this (so maybe the register.com accounts have nothing to do with it). He had the emails for the ["firstname@lastname.name](mailto:"firstname@lastname.name)" forward to his work account, which makes me think that maybe it was an an alias he logged into somehow. Thoughts?
